THE FACTS WE FACE

  • Food Insecurity: people not having enough to eat and not knowing where their next meal will come from.

  • 44 million (13%) Americans are food insecure, 13 million of them are children.

  • Food Bank: a large warehouse that safely stores millions of pounds of food that will soon be delivered to local food programs, like the Plymouth Community Food Pantry (PCFP).

  • Connecticut Foodshare is Connecticut’s only food bank serving 500 partners across the State.

  • Foodshare is funded by private donations, the USDA, and the CT Nutritional Assistance Program (CT-NAP)

  • Foodshare receives food from local donors, retailers, grocery stores, restaurants, the USDA, and CT-NAP.

  • Foodshare delivers food to its 500 partners to help feed the State’s 400,000 food insecure individuals.

  • Food Pantry: a center where food insecure people can shop or receive packages of food.

  • The Town of Plymouth has approximately 1,100 (9%) residents that are food insecure.

  • The Town of Plymouth has approximately 411(30%) households earning less than the basic cost of living.

  • The PCFP serves about 400 people (a 60% increase since Covid)/month.

  • The PCFP serves about 160-170 households (a 52% increase since Covid)/month.

  • The PCFP has distributed 198,500 pounds of food this past year (a 73% increase since Covid)

  • The PCFP has received approximately 205,000 pounds of food this past year (a 94% increase since Covid).

    • 123,000 lbs. (60%) from CT Foodshare @ 1 cent per pound

    • 47,900 lbs. (23%) from donations

    • 34,100 lbs. (17%) PCFP purchases @ $1.08 per pound.

  • Since the middle of Covid, the PCFP shifted its focus to nutritional/healthful eating. Over 60% of the food served in our pantry is fresh produce, dairy, or nonperishables with low sodium.  Very little unhealthy food is stocked.

  • Many customers experience fears and other concerns about coming to a Food Pantry. Our volunteers have created a culture that makes you feel welcome to be here and treats you like a member of the family.

Donate

Every household pantry runs low at some time.  The Plymouth Community Food Pantry is no different.  You can help us by donating some of the items listed below.  These items hardly ever change because we seldom receive them from our partner, Connecticut Foodshare.  We usually purchase them.  Your thoughtfulness is appreciated
